[He's already halfway done with his salmon. Yeaaahhh... he's hungry. At least he knows better than to talk with his mouth full.]
You know I'm fine with whatever. Honestly, this was more than enough. [He's curious about the present, though...]
I don't mind a few drinks! As long as we're not going out, that is. Normally I'd be okay with it, but it's a holiday weekend so it'll be super busy. I kinda just want to spend the day here with you, if that's okay.
[Good Lord but his boy can eat fast. Sometimes, Mikleo just forgets how damn quick food goes when Sorey's in the vicinity.]
I'll still make an effort for vanilla, but noted.
[Mikleo finishes his food and starts rinsing off his dishes before putting them in the dishwasher. He'll do Sorey's as well once the brunet's finished. Of course, once he's done, he'll turn to his partner and loop his arms around his neck, pressing close to him. Mikleo kisses him chastely a couple times before whispering in his ear:]
Also, if you want, I can give you a massage when you get back home.
[Preparing for their finals has been rough, but Sorey's got the added stress of preparing his high school kids for theirs, too.]
There's been times where you didn't want to do something and I dragged you anyway and you had fun. That's what I'm talking about. [He's teasing back, because of course.]
This is so good. Ugh. I'm gonna have to thank my mom, too, for helping you with this.
[But then she'll probably ask Sorey when he's marrying Mikleo, and Sorey won't be able to lie to her face. That'll be... torture. So maybe he'll put that off for a little while longer.
He finishes the rest of his food and helps Mikleo rinse the dishes. He isn't afraid to press himself right up against his boyfriend and reach around him, helping him but also being cuddly and disruptive. Thankfully Mikleo seems open to that. It's nice to be able to hug in the kitchen... and pretty much anywhere. It's nice to be able to hold Mikleo at all, honestly.
He's so lucky.
He blushes at the whispering, and then his eyebrows go up.]
[God, Sorey's such a distraction when Mikleo wants to be productive. Not that he can really complain about it, since the brunet's an amazingly good cuddler.
His eyes have a spark of mischief in them.]
I was thinking we could stay here. I've got a feeling your present will make you wanna stay in the apartment for the weekend.
[He kisses his boyfriend's cheek and gently slaps his arm before taking a step back out of his arms.]
Anyway, go get ready for work. You don't wanna be late, do you?
That sounds good to me. [Mikleo's obviously planned something, but he can't imagine what it is.] I'm gonna be burning with curiosity all day, you tease.
[Sorey freezes tangibly as Mikleo brings up the dreaded 'w' word.] Oh, crud. [Yeah, he forgot. He was so happy snuggling and eating a good breakfast that he forgot he had to work at eleven.]
It's a short shift, but... ugh. If we didn't need the money I'd totally have taken today off. Hopefully Luke will go easy on me.
[He leans in and gives Mikleo one more kiss, this one soft and lingering, before he pulls away.]
[He returns the kiss, savoring the moment and sighing softly when Sorey pulls away. Mikleo smiles fondly at him.]
Love you, too. And don't forget your bento!
[Once Sorey's left, Mikleo scurries off to his former bedroom to get all the supplies he hid in there in preparation for his gift. He brings out the litter box and sets it up, along with putting a little mat in front of it. A cat tree gets set up near the window; a basket goes under one of the end tables to store the cat toys when they have to vacuum; and he throws crinkly, colorful balls on the floor of their living room. Mikleo sets up a water bowl, dry food bowl, and a little plate for wet food on a mat in the kitchen.
All of that done, he takes a look at the clock and decides that he has just enough time to do one more thing before leaving to pick up their new kitten. Mikleo grabs a bag full of red rose petals and scatters them around the bed in their room, just to give Sorey a huge hint. He sighs, as he double-checks their room to make sure there's nothing that the new addition to the family can get into. Mikleo picks up a couple of pens that fell on the floor and opens up the nightstand drawer to put them away. That's...about when his eyes fall on a little velvet box. The pale-haired man stares at it, dumbfounded, and opens it just to make sure it's what he thinks it is.
Holy shit it's a ring. Mikleo doesn't take more than a second to look at it before shutting the lid and putting it back, blushing bright red. A lot of thoughts cross his mind, but the most important thing is a giddy feeling that threatens to make him do embarrassing things like jump in the air with a squeal. To calm himself down, Mikleo just...finishes clearing the floor and shuts the door to their bedroom.
Holy shit, holy shit.]
Get it together, jeez!
[He shakes his head, grabs his keys, and goes to pick up their kitten. It takes about an hour, but he comes home with the cutest little calico-rag doll mix kitten. Mikleo coos at her as he brings her inside, and then sets her loose upon the apartment to explore to her heart's content. The older man sighs as he starts making dessert and preps for dinner. While he waits for some things to finish, he'll play with the kitten until she's completely worn out.
About five minutes before Sorey walks in the door, Mikleo makes sure to gently and carefully wrap a cute, blue bow around the kitten's neck. He scritches her ears, gives her a treat, and tells her she's a good girl when it's done.]
[Sorey walks in with a tired sigh. The bento certainly helped his mood but the day was still too long and too busy. He kicks off his shoes by the door and strips his jacket, which he goes to hang by the door.]
I'm home!
[He takes three steps and stops, having kicked some kind of jingly bell ball across the living room by accident. He blinks... and then he really looks around. There's a wealth of cat stuff that definitely was not here before. And, curiously, here comes a tiny calico kitten with a big blue bow.]
Oh-- oh my god, you didn't. Mikleo. You didn't!
[Despite his distress, he delicately picks up the kitten and cradles her in his arms. He's been really good today but this is basically the end for him. The kitten mews pathetically and sniffs at his nose, and Sorey actually sobs.
He's always wanted a pet. He's always wanted something furry and warm to greet him when he came home and sleep in his bed and love him when he wasn't feeling happy about things. He has all the unconditional love he could ever want from Mikleo, but it's not the same kind of companionship.
If Mikleo doesn't pop out of the kitchen he's going to hunt him down, tears be damned.]
[Mikleo comes out when he hears Sorey's exclamation. Fortunately, he's just finished setting up dinner: saba shioyaki as the main dish with a small salad, a clear, broth soup, a meat and potato stew, and brown rice as side dishes.
Seeing his boyfriend's expression, his own softens into affection and fondness. The older man immediately goes to Sorey's side, hugging him around his waist so that he doesn't disturb the kitten, and kisses his cheek gently.]
Welcome home. I see you've already met your kitten. She's part rag doll, by the way, so she's gonna get pretty big and she'll like being picked up.
[Sounds like the perfect kind of cat for Sorey, to be honest.]
She's also been spayed and vaccinated already, so we don't have to worry about that. She just needs a name.
[He's leaving that to his partner, since she's his pet.]
[He hugs Mikleo back with his one free arm. The ridiculousness of crying over a kitten has not escaped him; now he's laughing and crying at the same time.]
Thank you so much. Thank you. Feeding me all day and then I come home to this... I-I'm really happy, I promise, I'm just-- [a giggle-sob] -- I keep leaking.
[He sniffles anyway and tries to wipe his tears on something that is not the cat. When he opens his eyes again, they're green and bright.]
We should come up with a name together! We're her new parents, after all.
[Mikleo feels his heart melting at his poor boyfriend having a minor meltdown over the kitten. He reaches up to help wipe off his eyes and kisses his cheek again.]
Aw, Sorey, you're welcome. I was honestly terrified that Noah was going to ruin your birthday present.
[The man smiles up at the brunet and then gives the kitten some affectionate scritches under her neck.]
Well, then let's talk about it while we eat. She's got food laid out for her already. It didn't seem fair to make her wait.
Noah? But-- ... oh. Ohhhh. At the charity ball, when he was trying to push me to adopt... Oh my gosh, I had no idea. [He leans over and kisses Mikleo's cheek right back.]
Sounds good. I'm starving. [He lets the kitten down gently so she can continue exploring the house. The dinner spread is super impressive, there's no getting around that. He lets out a low whistle as he slides into his chair.]
Saba? And stew on top of that? If you keep feeding me like this, I'm gonna blow up like a balloon. I'll have to commute by rolling to work!
[He looks down at his food, chopsticks poised halfway in the air. His green eyes are the size of dinner plates.]
You made mochi?!
[He almost wants to skip dinner entirely, but that would be rude considering how much work Mikleo put into it.]
Are you a wizard? My mom's showed me like ten times, but I always messed it up. How am I supposed to eat fish when there's mochi somewhere? [He sits up a bit. Are they in the kitchen or out here? He might steal one if they are.]
[He's about to drool-- he's pretty sure of it. It takes serious willpower to sit back down and look at his mackerel, which is fucking delicious, but it's not mochi... He'll tide himself over for now by attacking this stew instead.]
Okay, okay. I'll behave for now, but no promises for later.
no subject
You're welcome. I'm hoping to do this more often, now that I know how to properly cook it.
[He starts in on his food as well.]
So, my plan for today is to give you your present before dinner. And I thought I'd do something different for dessert tonight instead of a cake.
[It'll probably take him all day to get everything ready, but Sorey's more than worth the effort.]
Oh, and I'm not sure if you wanted to try any mixed drinks tonight?
no subject
[He's already halfway done with his salmon. Yeaaahhh... he's hungry. At least he knows better than to talk with his mouth full.]
You know I'm fine with whatever. Honestly, this was more than enough. [He's curious about the present, though...]

no subject
And subject you to potentially sub-par mixing? Please. I'm not that mean.
[Still...he rewards Sorey with one of his small, soft smiles.]
I'll never say no to spending time with you.
[The lighter-haired man finishes off his salmon, rice, and soup before starting in on his kobachi. He tilts his head slightly as he thinks.]
I need to do a bit of research, but I'll see if I can find any vanilla flavored drinks you might like.
no subject
I trust your judgment. Most of the time.
[He practically inhales everything else. He's certainly able to taste it, but goodness, everything is so good. He can't not eat it.
Though the best part is Mikleo's smile, definitely. It's soft and warm, and Sorey can't help returning it.]
It doesn't have to be vanilla. As long as it's sweet, I'm willing to try it.
no subject

[He looks smug as he tilts his head into the kiss. It's deserved, all things considered!
Mikleo sits down as well, smirking at Sorey.]
I dunno, I think you need a little more meat on those bones. Heaven knows you have a black hole for a stomach, anyway.
[The pale-haired man helps himself to some food before adding:]
I've made some sakura wagashi, too, for when you want to try any drinks. They'll take the bite out if it's too strong for your liking.
[He's really proud of how they turned out.]

You made mochi?!
[He almost wants to skip dinner entirely, but that would be rude considering how much work Mikleo put into it.]

no subject
Not just any mochi. I filled them with vanilla ice cream, and I made the outside a light vanilla flavor, too.
[He can't contain his grin, though. This is adorable, even if the compliments are making him blush.]
After dinner, Sorey. I made sure there was enough to not spoil dessert.

[He laughs, then goes back to eating.]
no subject
Fair enough.
[He takes a few more bites before continuing.]
By the way, what kind of names were you thinking of for our cat?
no subject
Sorey is already halfway through his fish when Mikleo speaks up again. He chews thoughtfully and swallows before answering.]
What about Eleanor? Like Eleanor of Aquitaine. A queen's name would make sense for a cat, don't you think?
no subject
Mm, maybe. I like the sound of it, but let's run through a couple other names before we decide on Eleanor.
[Give him a moment....]
Maybe Bast, the cat goddess?
no subject
I can't really see Bast as a calico, though... Maybe if she was black all over, or a sphinx?
If we're going with goddesses there's a bunch to choose from. Like Áine, or Ceridwen-- ah, and Freyja too.
no subject
Brighid might be nice, or Branwen if we want to go with something from Arthurian legend.
[Please don't name the cat Morgan. She might turn evil on them in that case.]
no subject
[They're not going to name the cat Morgan. But Sorey grins a bit and suggests it anyway.]
Or we could name her Morgan, and then her last name could be Le Fay...
no subject
[He's so proud of you, Sorey.
Up until the brunet suggests Morgan Le Fay. Mikleo gives him a flat look.]
Are you trying to imply that you want to have my surname? Or is this another way of saying I'm catty?
