Are you sure they're that different? [He really can't wrap his brain around it.] There's a difference between wind and lightning, but dark and shadow?

[He nuzzles into Mikleo's neck without warning.]

You're more of a perfectionist, though.

[Sorey's finding it hard to keep his eyes open, so he doesn't. He's enjoying what little mana transfer he can get from the hair-petting, and of course, the hair-petting itself. It isn't often that Mikleo is this affectionate, but he supposes they deserve it after all they've been through.

Gods, Mikleo must be really worried about him.]

You could've turned back a long time ago, but you didn't.

[He lifts the mug.] A little more, please? Sorry, I just... I'm really thirsty.

It's like how holy isn't the same thing as light. 'Shadow' is just one part of the dark element, just as 'light' is one part of the holy element.

[Mikleo shivers slightly, but hums softly in content at the nuzzle. Jeez, someone needs to warn a guy before he attacks his neck like that!]

Sure, but your memory is more impressive...for spitting out random trivia and entire passages of written text.

[Oh, yeah, he went there.]

[To be honest, it's taking a lot for Mikleo to appear this calm. The kind of disease wracking Sorey's body isn't one they've ever experienced before back home or here. He's scared to face the possibility that the cure Eric is working on won't work and what that'll mean for his partner.

The water seraph refuses to show that, though. Not when his lover is in need of his strength and support.]

Please, like I would've left you behind.

[Mikleo doesn't hesitate to refill the mug with more water.]

Don't apologize for something like that. You know I'm more than okay with it.

[He murmurs the words as he holds Sorey a little closer to him.]

Hmm... I guess that makes sense. It's part of it but not the whole thing.

[Pfft, warning him would take the fun out of it. Sorey makes an offended noise at that next remark, however, and nips at Mikleo's ear in revenge.]

Hey, you can't deny it's effective.

[openhanded]

[Sorey doesn't hesitate to drink again. This time it's slower, and he doesn't waste a drop. When he finally lowers the mug, he looks just as tired as he feels. He's tried to be strong for Mikleo, tried to pretend he's okay, but he isn't. And he knows Mikleo is trying for him, which just makes Sorey feel worse.]

I... I think I'm good now. [He offers the mug back to Mikleo.] Make sure to wash this out before you use it again.

[He doesn't leave any room for argument, because he's curling up against the water seraph and closing his eyes. It occurs to Sorey that he hasn't slept in ages, but if he lays here long enough with his friend's fingers in his hair, he just might.]

Is it okay if I rest for a bit? Just a little bit...

[rulayracing]

[Mikleo inhales sharply at that and glares at him, though there's no real heat in it.]

Yeah, until you consider the fact that you forget that you need to eat.

[He retaliates with nipping Sorey's ear, too. Because they are both actual children.]

[rulayracing]

[Mikleo wraps the mug in a cloth before returning it to his bag, making a soft noise of agreement. He keeps holding Sorey close to him, running his fingers through his hair and shifting so that they're both more comfortable.]

Take as long as you need, Sorey.

[He'll pray to the Five Lords that his dreams are pleasant while he rests. The water seraph, meanwhile, will remain vigilant, just like old times.]

[He holds up a finger like he's about to argue, and then he stops. Mikleo has a point.]

But books are so interesting! [Then the seraph is biting his ear back, and he yelps and laughs.] Ah, hey--!!

[He lets out a noise of agreement that's more like a sigh. With every passing moment, he seems to melt against the seraph a little more. There's so much they should talk about but words seem insurmountable. He should get up and do another round of healing, he should be helping with the patrol, he should... he should...

But Mikleo's presence is steady and familiar in a forest full of terrors and darkness and secrets, and it isn't more than a minute later that he goes limp and begins to breathe shallowly.]

You're the one who decided to bite my ear first, so don't give me that.

[Huffs!!!]

[ Sometime late on the evening of December 24th, Sorey will receive a mysterious package via his carrier. How does such a tiny birb spit up such a giant thing, who even knows. Seriously, it's huge, and wrapped in gold and silver, it is unclear who the gift came from at first. Upon opening it, Sorey will find two things:

A fairly robust hiker's kit. It's obviously store-bought, by someone who likely doesn't know the first thing about being an explorer, but there looks to be quite a few useful things in here, at least! And it's the thought that counts, right?

As well as a small package of berry-and-millet treats for the hero's slightly-more-feathered friend.

Packaged with these two items is a letter, written in immaculate handwriting. ]

It is customary during this time of year for people to exchange gifts to celebrate the coming of the new year. Do you have a holiday like that where you are from? It seems like quite a few heroes do, as well as the people of Enprise—and as they say, do as others do!

I hope that you will be able to find some use out of this gift. I will admit that I may not have as much experience with this sort of thing as you, but I was assured that something like this was essential for any explorer. I hope that is true.

Cherima Day

[Lux isn't the only one getting a gift from Mikleo. He's just been saving it for the actual day you're supposed to give presents. Anyway, in a box wrapped in blue paper, Sorey gets the following from his tsundere seraph soulmate:

-Assorted baked goods in cute shapes (listen he's really proud of how they turned out)
-Canary treats
-A travel kit for any aspiring archaeologist

There's also one last present that's wrapped in white and silver. Inside Sorey will find something nice and fits him perfectly. It comes with a short note in familiar handwriting.]

You never know when they'll host another ball of some sort. Sorry about the lack of feathers.
